How this works
One Excel workbook, four tabs, formulas already in: the customers a day you need, the drawer at close, and the tip jar split by hours worked.
Most shops do the cash-up on paper and the break-even never at all. This is one workbook with the three jobs already laid out, so closing is a row of numbers rather than an evening building a spreadsheet. Fill in Break-even once, and every day after that is one line.
- Break-even divides one day of your fixed costs by what a single customer leaves you after the cost of what you sell. The answer is the customers a day you need; the line under it turns that into takings.
- Daily cash-up adds cash, card and app sales into the day’s takings, and checks the drawer separately: cash counted, less the starting float, less cash sales. Positive is over, negative is short.
- The tip split divides the jar by hours worked and rounds each share to the cent, so the Total row can land a cent either side of the jar. It shows that total rather than hiding it.
- Nothing is locked and no macros run. Change any formula you disagree with; it is your sheet.
Common questions
- Do I need to give my email address?
- No. The file downloads when you press the button. There is no form, no sign-up and no list.
- Does it work in Google Sheets?
- Yes. In Google Sheets choose File, then Import, then Upload, and pick the file. The formulas carry over. It also opens in Apple Numbers and LibreOffice.
- Are there macros in it?
- No. It is a plain .xlsx with formulas only, so nothing asks you to enable content and nothing can run on your computer.
- Can I change it?
- Yes, all of it. Nothing is protected or hidden. It is a starting point, not a product.
- Do my numbers come to you?
- No. The file is on your computer and nothing in it sends anything anywhere. We count that the sheet was downloaded, in which language, and nothing about who downloaded it.
- Can I use it for two shops?
- Yes. Save a copy for each one and name the file after the shop. Nothing in the workbook knows which shop it is, so the two copies never meet.
- Is there a version in my language?
- There is 繁體中文 and español, linked under the download button. Both are the same four tabs with the same formulas.
