How to use it

1. 1Type your figures into the calculator. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored. The answer is worked out in your browser.
2. 2Read the result and its caption. The assumptions are shown on the screen beside the number.
3. 3Save your figures once in the back office. Then this screen, and every other one, answers for your shop instead of a generic one.

What it does

• Four cards print on one sheet, on a dashed line you cut along. Print as many sheets as you need.
• Ten visits for one reward is the usual arrangement, and the number is capped at twenty, because above that the boxes are too small to stamp and the card is one nobody fills.
• The poster repeats the same two numbers, so the wall and the card cannot disagree.
• No email address, no name, no phone number is asked for, and nothing typed here leaves your browser.
• The sheet carries one small line saying the digital card is free. Paper cards get lost, left at home, and washed; the honest pitch is to say so on the paper rather than to withhold it.

Common questions

How many stamps should a loyalty card have?

Ten is the usual number and it works because it is easy to count. Fewer than about six and the reward costs you more than the habit is worth; more than about twelve and most people give up before the end. The card is capped at twenty here for that reason.

What should the reward be?

Something you sell that costs you little and is worth coming back for: the coffee, not the equipment. Work out what it actually costs you before you print, so the tenth visit is not the one that loses you money.

Is a paper stamp card better than a digital one?

Paper costs nothing to start and needs no explanation. It also gets lost, left at home and put through the wash, and it tells you nothing about who your regulars are. Most shops start on paper and move when the cards start going missing.

Do I need an account to print these?

No. Type the three fields and press print. Nothing is stored and nothing is uploaded.

Can I change the wording on the card?

The shop name, the reward and the number of visits are yours to type. The rest of the wording is fixed so the card stays short enough to read at a counter.
