Most owners already have a POS. Square, Toast, Clover or another brand rings up every sale. So when you want a loyalty program, you look at your POS first. Then you see the add-on price. Or you see that it only works on that one brand of register.
We make a loyalty tool too. KANJIN's Stamp card is free, and it works next to any POS. So we keep two rules. Every price and feature below has a link, checked on 22 September 2026. And where a POS add-on is better than ours, we say so.
Why the POS add-on is often the right choice
Start with the case for the add-on.
- The stamp happens at the register. The customer pays, and the points go on in the same step.
- One system. Sales, customers and rewards sit in one place.
- One bill. Loyalty is one more line on the invoice you already pay.
If your POS plan already includes loyalty, use it. The extra cost is zero, and there is no extra step.
When loyalty costs extra, ask two things. What does it cost each month? Will it bring enough extra visits to pay for it?

Each POS add-on, one by one
Square Loyalty
Square Loyalty comes with Square Plus, at $49 per location a month. That is from Square's own announcement. Premium costs $149. The free Square plan has no loyalty.
You can try Square Loyalty free for 30 days. Square says there are no locked-in contracts. Plus includes unlimited email and 500 texts a month, then 3 cents a text, per Square's marketing pricing.
Where it is better: the stamp happens at the register. Customers can also join online or on an invoice. Square sends texts, and KANJIN does not.
Toast Loyalty
Toast does not publish the price. Its pricing and loyalty pages say "Contact Sales." FaveCard, a loyalty company, reports $185 a month for the Marketing Essentials bundle (March 2026). Owner.com, a Toast competitor, reports the same $185. The bundle includes loyalty, gift cards, email and texts. You pay it on top of your Toast POS plan.
Toast's loyalty support page says guests join at the register, when they sign the check, online, or in the Local by Toast app. Its text marketing page says you get 500 texts per location a month.
Where it is better: loyalty runs on every Toast screen: the POS, the kiosk, online ordering and the guest display.
Clover Rewards
Clover's pricing page shows no loyalty price. A guide by LoyaltyPass, a loyalty company, says basic Clover Rewards comes with all Clover plans. The same guide says Customer Engagement Plus costs $99 a month. It adds birthday rewards, tiers and win-back offers. We could not confirm the $99 on Clover's site.
Also note: Clover's hardware promotion requires a 3-year contract, per the small print on its pricing page.
Where it is better: basic Rewards may cost nothing extra. The paid tier sends birthday and win-back offers for you.
Lightspeed Loyalty
Lightspeed's restaurant POS costs $69, $189 or $399 a month. Loyalty is part of Advanced Marketing. Lightspeed does not show its price, so you talk to an expert.
Its marketing and loyalty page lists points, tiers, email flows and SMS campaigns. That page is for Lightspeed Retail.
Where it is better: the most complete marketing in this group. It ties sales to campaigns, so you see what each one brought in.
Shopify POS
Shopify plans cost $25, $65 or $399 a month, per Shopify's pricing page. POS Pro adds $89 per location a month, billed yearly.
Shopify POS has no built-in loyalty, according to Joy, a company that makes a Shopify loyalty app. Shopify gives you 10,000 free emails a month, then $1 per 1,000.
Where it is better: if you also sell online, one customer list covers your shop and your website.
SumUp
SumUp's POS has a free plan, then $49, and from $99 a month, per SumUp's pricing page. Loyalty is a separate product, SumUp Connect. Connect Plus costs $269 a month, and Connect Pro costs $349. SumUp says there are no long-term contracts. It gives a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Where it is better: a free POS plan with a card reader and next-day payouts. Connect Pro adds monthly promos and review incentives.
Loyverse
Loyverse is a free POS, and its loyalty program is in the free app, per Loyverse's pricing page. The page lists no email or text marketing.
Where it is better: a free POS and free loyalty in one app, with the stamp at the register. New to POS? Look here first.
When a POS add-on is not worth it
An add-on pays for itself with extra visits. These are visits that would not happen without it.
The sum: divide the monthly fee by what one visit leaves you after costs.
Worked example. A restaurant has a $28 average check and 30% food cost. One visit leaves about $19.60. Each add-on then needs this many extra visits a month:
- Square Plus at $49: at least 3.
- Clover Engagement Plus at $99: at least 6.
- Toast Marketing Essentials at $185: at least 10.
- SumUp Connect Plus at $269: at least 14.
A cafe has a harder sum. A $5 coffee at 75% margin leaves $3.75. There, Square Plus needs at least 14 extra visits a month. The Toast bundle needs about 50.

Loyalty that works with any POS
KANJIN (ours)
KANJIN is a free back office for small shops, and the Stamp card is one part. A customer gives a phone number at the counter. Staff type it on a tablet and press one button. Customers can also join from their own phone with the QR code on the Counter poster. No app, and no limit on customers.
Why an owner picks it:
- It is free. No card, no time limit.
- No contract. There is nothing to sign.
- The back office is included. Daily ledger, Break-even, Profit by item, Lost revenue and Shift notes are free too.
- You keep the list. One press in Settings downloads it as a spreadsheet. It is not locked inside a POS, so it comes with you if you change POS.
- One free email a month, to up to 150 Stamp card customers, and 20 Google review requests a month.
The Paid plan is $39 per location a month, or $390 a year, for up to five shops. It adds the slow-day email, Google review requests with no monthly cap, and Creator discovery. It also adds the Win-back email. That email goes to a regular once they pass their usual gap plus 14 days. It writes only to customers with 2 or more visits who said yes to email. Read why customers stop coming back. The Rainy day email is not automatic: you pick the wet day, read the email and press Send. See rainy day marketing for cafes.
Billing is not live yet. The paid plan is switched on by hand for our first shops, and nothing is charged until you choose to start it. The first 100 shops keep a founder price of $29 a month.
Where it is weaker: KANJIN has no POS integration. The stamp is not at the register, so staff take one extra step on a separate tablet. KANJIN sends email only, with no texts. It has no wallet pass. Email works in six countries only: the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Elsewhere the Stamp card works, but emails do not send.
Loyalzoo
Loyalzoo Grow costs $77 a month, with a 7-day free trial. Customers use a branded web app, or join through the POS. Its integrations page lists eight POS brands, including Clover, Square and Shopify, and a "No POS" option.
Where it is better: the stamp happens at the register on eight POS brands. It sends texts with message credits.
How to choose
- You are on Square Plus already. Use Square Loyalty. It costs nothing extra and sends texts.
- You are on the free Square plan. Loyalty means $49 per location for Plus. Compare that with a free card next to your register.
- You run a Toast restaurant. The bundle puts points on every screen, with texts. If $185 a month is too much, a separate card can sit beside the register.
- You are on Clover. Start with basic Rewards. Pay for the upgrade only if the sum above works.
- You have not picked a POS. Loyverse gives you a free POS with free loyalty.
- You plan to switch POS. A card outside the POS keeps your list when you move. KANJIN works next to any POS. Loyalzoo works with eight.
- You run 2 to 5 shops. Square Plus and Shopify POS Pro charge per location. KANJIN's Free plan is one shop per account. Paid plan covers up to five shops, at $39 each.
When KANJIN is the wrong choice. You already pay for Square Plus. You want stamps at the register with no extra step. You need text messages. Or you want to email regulars from outside the six email countries. In each case, a POS add-on fits better.
